MyGym

how fitness superstore helpled mygym prepare for growth

Steve Hoyles expected significant membership growth in the new year and needed to be ready. Working with Fitness Superstore, MyGym upgraded its conditioning equipment. Having an equipment partner he can rely on is fundamental to his plans for MyGym to sustain the success and growth of its first four years in operation.

”We opened in August 2020 during the pandemic. Within three miles there are several big national chains for competition. We’ve managed to forge our own path, creating a unique community and growing a loyal membership.”

“We have Olympians, professional sportsmen and women train with us, as well as weekend warriors, people in their 80’s and so on. We’ve done well because we’ve built a real community. But reliable high-quality equipment is a musthave for any successful gym.”

Fitness Superstore understand what’s important What sets MyGym apart is its commitment to engaging with members as people, even simple things like greeting people by name when they come in. It encourages people to come back and lets the team find out first-hand what members like and how to improve things. Steve looks for the same strengths in his suppliers, he aims to work with companies that actively contribute to MyGym’s development.

“We were looking for a partner, a supplier we can rely on for conditioning equipment: treadmills, bikes, rowers. I used to have Fitness Superstore down as the domestic market rather than commercial, but the range and pricing looked competitive, and I was really impressed with how they handled the whole process from start-to-finish when I contacted them.”

“The human touch is important. If I have a problem I or need to change an order, I want to speak to a human. There might be products I’m not aware of that suit my requirements better, but I won’t know unless I speak to someone.”

“Having a partner on board to supply and service high-grade equipment is a big deal for us”

Ready for the next level Until working with Fitness Superstore, Steve struggled to find a suitable partner for conditioning equipment; quality and service both fell short of expectations. He managed to work with what he had but knew it was a limitation on MyGym’s performance. With January, the busiest month fast-approaching, he was keen to upgrade equipment in advance to reward his membership and attract new sign-ups.

“If people see equipment falling apart and not being repaired, it doesn’t look good. It loses you members very, very quickly. Having a partner on board to supply and service high-grade equipment is a big deal for us.”

Members immediately welcomed the improved cardio machines installed in November 2024 and Steve is excited about continuing the relationship with Fitness Superstore. “The order we received was great. There was a small hiccup with one item out of stock but when I called them it was dealt with professionally. I don’t expect perfection but if there is an issue I want it worked out quickly.”

“Originally, we were looking for a cardio partner, but we’ve been really happy up to now so we will look at buying some of our accessories and consumables from them. I know that if we are on board with them, it will open doors for us in the future.”

About MyGym

Based in Hazel Grove, Greater Manchester, MyGym’s distinctive black and yellow interior takes take inspiration from Manchester’s worker bee symbol, the Hacienda club and the heavy-lifting capabilities of JCB. The design has clearly hit the mark with a leading sports nutrition company (CNP) and national TV using the gym as a backdrop for photoshoots and filming. But there is more to MyGym than a snazzy paint job.

Steve Hoyles has used more than 20 years’ experience as a Physical Trainer to create an outstanding gym. Three times runner-up at the National Fitness awards, Steve is convinced they should’ve claimed top prize at least once. Nevertheless, he is still pleased with the recognition of what he and his business partners have achieved so far. He sees Fitness Superstore having an important role in the next part of the story.
